The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Occupational Health, an integral part of McGill's Faculty of Medicine, is based in Purvis Hall, one of several old mansions in the historic "Golden Square Mile" of Montreal now part of the McGill campus.
The Department has a tradition of excellence in teaching at the graduate level and is home to over 50 dynamic and active faculty members whose fields of inquiry include clinical epidemiology, respiratory epidemiology, biostatistical methods, pharmaco-epidemiology, population and public health, infectious disease epidemiology, women's health, reproductive epidemiology and maternal and child health, occupational health, and cancer epidemiology. Emerging new areas include social epidemiology, genetic and molecular epidemiology, technology assessment, health outcomes and cost effectiveness evaluation, health services research and clinical research informatics.
The Department offers several Master of Science programs (MSc and MSc(A)), as well as a programs leading to a PhD degree. There are approximately 200 students enrolled full- or part-time in these programs.
