Dr. Michael Hier is a head and neck surgeon at the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital, and the site director for the McGill University training program in Otolaryngology. Dr. Hier graduated from medicine at McGill University in 1990, and performed residency training through 1990-1995 at McGill University. In 1997, Dr. Hier completed a fellowship training program in Head and Neck Surgery-Oncology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. His clinical specialty is head and neck oncology, head and neck endocrine surgery, and laser laryngeal surgery.

Dr. Hier is an academic head and neck surgeon with a very strong interest in medical student and resident education as well as being an active participant in multiple facets of clinical research. He was involved in pioneering work on salivary gland transfer surgery to prevent xerostomia in association with radiation to the head and neck. Dr. Hier performs endoscopic laser laryngeal surgery at the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital and McGill University. He completed a term as head and neck Oncology Co-Chair for the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and has recently completed a term as a committee member for the education committee of the American Head and Neck Society. He remains actively involved at the national level.
