Due to the extraordinary circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and in response to altered policies announced by McGill on 20 March 2020, the Department of English will allow winter 2020 courses that are taken under the Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory, or S/U, option (https://www.mcgill.ca/students/courses/plan/s-u) to count toward major, minor, honours, and joint honours program credit in all three streams.
The only Department of English course not included in this policy is ENGL 491, Honours Essay; students enrolled in ENGL 491 must earn a B+ or higher in the course in order to graduate with an Honours or Joint Honours degree.
Courses for which the S/U option is exercised will not be calculated in a student’s GPA but will contribute to credits completed. Courses for which the S/U option is exercised this term will not count toward the maximum number of credits that a student may designate as S/U (i.e., up to 10 per cent of total degree credits).
The date by which students may exercise the S/U option is May 22, 2020, reflecting that students’ grades are known by this time.
