DESCRIPTION:Includes Samples of Origami and Origami-Inspired Materials!\n	Pl
ease register with this form: forms.office.com/r/XmxncWh4hz\n\nTHE EMERGEN
CE OF ORIGAMI in China and Japan was linked to the invention of a revoluti
onary new material: paper. Today\, concepts from this classical art are sp
urring new advances in fields such as deployable structures\, soft robotic
s\, programmable materials\, and nanomaterials. Join MIAM for a talk by tw
o leaders in this field\, Hamid Akbarzadeh (McGill Bioresource Engineering
) and Damiano Pasini (McGill Mechanical Engineering)\, as they discuss and
answer questions about how origami folding techniques—often initially exp
lored through paper models—can help solve persistent engineering challenge
s: How do we create stronger and lighter materials? How do we conserve spa
ce when transporting products around the world and into outer space? How c
an we create machines that are both durable and flexible\, and able to dep
loy in remote environments? Professors Akbarzadeh and Pasini will bring sa
mples of origami and origami-inspired materials.\n\nHAMID AKBARZADEH (Abdo
lhamid Akbarzadeh Shafaroudi)\, an Associate Professor and Canada Research
Chair at McGill University\, leads research in origami engineering and mu
ltifunctional mechanical metamaterials. As head of the Advanced Multifunct
ional and Multiphysics Metamaterials Lab (AM3L)\, his work spans from nano
scale to macroscale engineering.\n\nDAMIANO PASINI\, a Professor of Mechan
ical Engineering and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair at McGill University\, c
onducts research in origami- and kirigami-inspired mechanical metamaterial
s through the Pasini Research Group. His work focuses on transforming flat
sheets into high-performance\, three-dimensional structures with reprogra
mmable physical properties.\n\nThe event will be moderated by MARTA CERRUT
I\, Co-Director of MIAM and Professor of Materials Engineering.\n
