DESCRIPTION:Guest Speaker: Sedigheh Asgari\, University of Isfahan (Iran)\n
\nIn a centralized educational system like Iran\, the mathematics educatio
n curriculum that is implemented by teachers is created by curriculum deve
lopers. In such a process\, the separation of curriculum 'developers' and
curriculum 'implementers' leads to a gap between the intended curriculum a
nd implemented one. With this in mind\, the presentation will discuss the
following: the educational system of Iran\; Iranian mathematics textbooks
(with an emphasis on seventh-grade algebra)\; the role of teachers in the
mathematics curriculum\; and teachers' contributions to designing a lesson
based on a mathematics textbook.\n\n \n\nThis event is coordinated by the
Research Committee and the Science and Mathematics Education Research Gro
 up (SMERG).\n
