Professor Susanne Lajoie featured in SSHRC video series: Imagining Canada's Future
Dr. Susanne Lajoie, Director of the LEADS Partnership, and founder of the ATLAS Research Group (Advanced Technologies for Learning in Authentic Settings), is featured in a recent SSHRC video, "Knowledge Synthesis Grants: New Ways of Learning."
The recent video series produced by SSHRC (Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council), Imagining Canada's Future, poses the question "What new ways of learning, particularly in higher education, will Canadians need to thrive in an evolving society and labour market?"
"Canada," states SSHRC online, "like many other countries, is at a tipping point in the way its education system, especially higher education, is conceptualized, structured and delivered in light of the knowledge and skills required for the 21st century. Debates are emerging in the research community and other sectors regarding the best way to deliver that learning."
LEADS (Learning Environments Across Disciplines) is an international research partnership devoted to improving learning and engagement in schools, from middle school to university, by bringing together educators, psychologists, computer scientists, engineers, physicians, historians and students across six countries, 18 universities and 13 partner organizations to conduct cutting-edge research in fostering 21st century skills through the use of innovative forms of technology that span across disciplines and subject-matters (such as cognition, affect, assessment, computational modeling, machine learning, educational data mining, and digital video ethnography). Dr. Lajoie was awarded the Canada Research Chair in Advanced Technologies for Learning in Authentic Settings in 2011.
