Kindergarten for 4-year-olds "a wonderful initiative," DISE's Dr. Smith-Gilman tells Global News (VIDEO)

Dr. Sheryl Smith-Gilman, of our Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE), spoke to Global News this week regarding the recent decision by the provincial government to add 100 new kindergarten classes for four-year-old children starting this September.

“I think it’s a wonderful initiative,” said Professor Smith-Gilman in part to Global News interviewer Amanda Jelowicki. “Four-year-olds are ready to learn, they are ready to move forward in their schooling..."

Professor Smith-Gilman is Assistant Director of Undergraduate Teacher Education Programs with McGill's Faculty of Education. A specialist in early childhood pedagogy, Dr. Smith-Gilman's research interests also include teacher education, professional development and curriculum in elementary schools.
