Pop-Up YouthART Event

Montreal-area youth, Professor Fiona J. Benson, Artist-in-Residence Jimmy Baptiste and McGill student teachers Parvesh Chainani, Chloe Corrado, Jane Ding, Jaereem Lee and Galit Sandaev are proud to announce the first ever McGill Education Pop-Up YouthART Event, to be held on 21 April at McGill.

This event will showcase the ARTwork of youth who participated in workshops held in community organizations and led by student teachers as part of a special topics course requirement of their B.Ed. The workshops spanned fall 2015 and winter 2016 and asked both the young people involved and the student teachers to experiment with various art forms and expressions -to take risks and to let their creative spirits soar.

The celebration of the youthART will be accompanied by brief presentations that speak to the work, and the student teachers and art mentors will speak about their own learning emanating from the experience of the workshops and their engagement with the youth in non-formal learning contexts, which was the focus of Professor Benson’s Special Topics course EDEC 300: Art In-Community: Learning from Doing Pop-Up Art with Youth.

We are enormously grateful for the support of the P. Lantz Initiative for Excellence in Education and the Arts, and to the five Montreal-area YMCAs, Tyndale St. Georges Community Centre, and Maison-des-Jeunes L'Escalier de Lachine, who have been our stalwart collaborators and supporters from the early days of this project.

Thursday, April 21 | 4:30-6pm | Education Curriculum Resources Centre/Library Space, 1st floor, Education building, 3700 McTavish | Snacks & beverages will be served.
