Dr. Fortier will present results from the Physical Activity Counselling (PAC) trial that involved the integration of a kinesiologist to promote patient physical activity and led to 14 peer-reviewed papers. She will discuss impacts of this trial such as the emergence of the College of Kinesiology in Ontario, the Coalition for Physical Activity Counselling, and the Physical Activity Counselling class.
Dr. Michelle Fortier is a physical activity psychology scientist and professor with the School of Human Kinetics with the University of Ottawa. Her research aims to understand and promote physical activity behaviour change with an emphasis on motivation. She was lead investigator of the Physical Activity Counselling (PAC) trial, and teachers a new physical activity counselling course stemming from this.
