Making Connections Through Making

Wednesday, February 17, 2021 15:00to16:00

You are invite to "Making Connections Through Making" on Wednesday, February 17th from 15:00 to 16:00 (EST).

In this presentation, Dr. Vandewiele and Dr. Schwarz explore the significance of artisan objects in two research settings: an ethnographic study with Guatemalan textile producers and an object elicitation study with Canadian craft vendors.

From these unique perspectives, they show how individuals imagine and materialize personal connections with distant others through handmade/handcrafted items and the stories imbued into them. They also describe how issues of representation and self-presentation emerged within each dataset, both conceptually and methodologically.
