IHDW and Participatory Cultures Lab Present: Making Connections Through Methods: Participatory Data Analysis

Monday, March 22, 2021 15:00to16:30

IHDW and Participatory Cultures Lab are pleased to invite you to "Making Connections Through Methods: Participatory Data Analysis" on March 22 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM (EST) with Rebekah Hutten, Katie MacEntee and Linda Liebenberg.

Ok, we've got data, now what do we do? Following a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach and using participatory visual methods includes critically examining what constitutes authentic implementation of working in a collaborative and participatory manner. There is an emerging literature reflecting on these themes in relation to data gathering approaches and dissemination of findings. This session will contribute to this work by considering participatory data analysis and how research participants can be centrally involved in 'making sense' and interpreting research data.

Rebekah will introduce the issues. Linda will review the importance of participant engagement in data analysis to the overall goals of PAR. She will use the experiences of the Spaces & Places project in Atlantic Canada to share approaches to participatory data analysis and exemplify the value of authentic participant engagement. Drawing on recent on-line participatory visual research that involved young people in Toronto in the analysis of video data, Katie will explore themes of inclusion and engagement. She will outline strategies to increase access and meaningful participation of research participants from diverse backgrounds and highlight ongoing challenges of integrating inclusive strategies when conducting participatory analysis virtually.

The session will include significant time for audience questions and group discussion.

Please register in advance for this meeting here.
