DESCRIPTION:\n\nJoin us for the second book in our series on exploring Indi
genous education and the TRC’s Calls to Action for Education: This Acciden
t of Being Lost\, by Leanne Betasamosake Simpson. Lori Beavis\, Artist-in-
Residence\, will lead the conversation on this selection and if interested
\, you are asked to:\n\n\n	Come to the Art Hive\, 1st floor\, Education bui
lding\, on Wednesday\, December 5th\, from 12-1:30pm\, having read This Ac
cident of Being Lost\n	Bring your lunch! \n\n\n'This Accident of Being Lost
is the knife-sharp new collection of stories and songs from award-winning
Nishnaabeg storyteller and writer Leanne Betasamosake Simpson. These visi
onary pieces build upon Simpson's powerful use of the fragment as a tool f
or intervention in her critically acclaimed collection Islands of Decoloni
al Love. Provocateur and poet\, she continually rebirths a decolonized rea
lity\, one that circles in and out of time and resists dominant narratives
or comfortable categorization. A crow watches over a deer addicted to roa
d salt\; Lake Ontario floods Toronto to remake the world while texting 'AR
E THEY GETTING IT?'\; lovers visit the last remaining corner of the boreal
forest\; three comrades guerrilla-tap maples in an upper middle-class nei
ghbourhood\; and Kwe gets her firearms license in rural Ontario. Blending
elements of Nishnaabeg storytelling\, science fiction\, contemporary reali
sm\, and the lyric voice\, This Accident of Being Lost burns with a quiet
intensity\, like a campfire in your backyard\, challenging you to reconsid
er the world you thought you knew.'\n
