DESCRIPTION:Searching Biomedical Information - Approaches and Challenges\n
\nAbstract\n\nDespite the availability of a large number of biomedical doc
uments on the web\, it is not obvious for an end user to find relevant inf
ormation related to a health condition\, a diagnosis or a treatment. A key
problem is mismatch due to the fact that a concept can be described in ma
 ny different ways (e.g. headache\, pain in head\, cephalalgia\, migraine\,
etc.). Extensive studies have been made\, ranging from word matching to c
oncept matching. In this talk\, I will describe the various approaches use
d for biomedical information retrieval. Experimental results show that a f
lexible approach based on concepts is preferred to a strict concept-based
approach.\n\nDespite the progress made in research\, tremendous challenges
still remain\, especially for non-specialist users. For example\, the tru
stfulness of information will be essential for biomedical information retr
ieval. I will discuss on some of these challenges.\n\n \n\nJian-Yun Nie Ph
