What is the Peer Program all about?
The Volunteer Career Services Peer Program offers a unique opportunity for students to get involved in the Faculty of Management and to help fellow students learn about Career Services and the various resources we have available. Peer Ambassadors and Peer Advisors are selected prior to the fall and winter terms and then follow an interactive training program. Peers help us throughout the academic year with various initiatives such as reviewing resumes, facilitating workshops, hosting drop-in sessions, and participating in employer events. Students in the program start off as Ambassadors and can later apply to become Advisors. Through this program students develop skills beneficial in helping them succeed in their personal career preparation.
The BCom Mentoring Program connects undergraduate students in their U2 and U3 years at the Desautels Faculty of Management to Mentors in industry who are themselves McGill Alumni (BCom 2003-2008).
The Program provides students with a connection to the real world of Management to gain insight into their chosen field, to develop their professional skill set and networking abilities and to reach their career goals.
Located in the Soutar Career Centre, Career Services at the Desautels Faculty of Management is dedicated to helping students develop their career management skills and explore career paths that enable them to ultimately achieve their career goals. Innovative programs, workshops and speaker series coupled with an integrated learning approach prepare our students and give them the skills to make an impact in their careers throughout their lifetime.
The Desautels Career Resources portal contains valuable information, including new ‘Career Guides’ that were written by recent graduates from the different disciplines, and the new B.Com Career Handbook, which contains everything you need to know about recruiting, interviewing, CV and cover letter advice, and much more! On top of that, the Portal hosts the online Career Newsletter, where you can find the latest information for your job hunt – no matter what your level or field of interest.
Career Services in the Soutar Career Centre assists BCom students to plan their career goals by helping them discover and prepare for opportunities that align with the individual career paths that the students would like to explore.
