A Leadership Dialogue with Mary Anderson, President of WBE Canada, Tracy Joshua, Vice-President of KNA Procurement at Kellog’s, and Professor Patricia Hewlin, McGill University, Desautels Faculty of Management as part of Homecoming 2017.
They discussed social and business benefits of cross-sector collaboration among business and government agencies, not for profit organizations, and management scholars for integrating more businesses led by women, Aboriginal, and minorities into global supply chains. This expert panel offered insight from corporate, advocacy and academic perspectives, and shared innovative strategies for effectively implementing sustainable and equitable procurement practices without losing sight of the bottom line.

Mary Anderson is the President of the national non-profit organization, WBE Canada. In her role, Mary is the driving force behind the organization’s mission of opening doors to new supply chains for women business enterprises. She has been instrumental in accelerating the growth of the organization through increasing the number of certified women-owned businesses and corporate members and through forging innovative partnerships with stakeholders and other organizations. Over her career, Mary has worked in corporations, non-profit organizations, academia, and as an entrepreneur. She has received numerous awards, including being recognized as one of the top 18 Influential Women in Diversity and HR and as the Program Ambassador of the Year by the Canadian Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce at its inaugural Supplier Diversity Forum.
Tracy Joshua is the Vice-President of KNA Procurement at Kellogg's. In her role, Tracy has responsibility for the procurement of indirect goods and services with a $3 Billion spend across all corporate functions. She leads with passion and impact Strategic Sourcing efforts for the Indirect Procurement Organization and she serves on the Kellogg North America Procurement Leadership Team. Prior to joining Kellogg, Tracy was the Chief Procurement and Logistics Officer for Detroit Public Schools where she led and implemented turnaround strategies with a focus on strategic sourcing, supply chain, inventory management, quality, supplier relationship management, and scorecard metrics aligned with State and Federal regulations. She has led procurement strategies with Bristol - Myers Squibb, Ford Motor Company, and General Motors, and holds expertise in the development and implementation of collaborative cross functional teams.
Dr. Patricia Faison Hewlin, is an Associate Professor in Organizational Behaviour here at the Desautels Faculty of Management. She conducts research on how organization members and leaders engage in authentic expression, as well as factors that impede authenticity in every day work interactions. Her research has centered on employee silence, and the degree to which members suppress personal values and pretend to embrace those of the organization, a behavior she has termed as "creating facades of conformity". Professor Hewlin's research has recently expanded to studying the role of authenticity and values among diverse organizational leaders and entrepreneurs in Canada and abroad. Prior to joining McGill University, Professor Hewlin was on faculty at Georgetown University in the McDonough School of Business. Additionally, she has extensive managerial experience as a Vice President at Citigroup, where she received numerous awards for excellence in management and community relations. Additional organizational affiliations have included JP Morgan Chase, Johnson and Johnson, The Berkshire Bank, American Express, and the US Department of Agriculture.
