Impact Internship Program (IIP)

SEI Impact Interns 2013-2018

What is the Impact Internship Program?

The Impact Internship Program (IIP) is offered by the Marcel Desautels Institute for Integrated Management (MDIIM). It is a carefully monitored and mentored experience for a cohort of exceptional BCom students to apply classroom knowledge and personal experience to professional settings with social and environmental impact projects. For host organizations, it is an opportunity to provide bright, driven students with meaningful work experience while advancing social and sustainability projects and objectives within their organizations.

In the past six years, the IIP has supported 70 internships with 40 organizations, primarily based in Montreal. There has been enthusiastic demand from both students and the al sector organizations to maintain and grow this program.

What is an Impact Internship?

A high-quality internship enables students to develop intentional learning goals and actively reflect on what she or he is learning throughout the experience. Internships promote academic, career and/or personal development and are an important way for students to gain relevant knowledge, skills and experience while establishing important connections within their field of interest. They also greatly increase the chances that a student will gain full-time employment after graduation. An “impact internship” does all of the aforementioned, with one notable exception: the work contributes to social or environmental impact and positive change within all organization types.
