Congratulations to Nazanin Hojjati for being awarded the very prestigious Lieutenant Governor of Quebec Award! The award recognizes young Quebecers who have had a positive influence on their community and have been able to achieve exceptional academic success. Nazanin was nominated by the Dean of Students, André Costopoulos, for her outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievements. Throughout her years in the Faculty of Dentistry Nazanin has been heavily involved with the Dental Students’ Society, her class council, the Faculty’s Outreach Programs and other volunteer activities. Nazanin is currently President of the DSS for the 2014-2015 academic year. As a volunteer Nazanin has taken part in the organisation of the Outreach run for the last four years, and in 2013 was part of the organising committee for the Chinese New Year Dinner (now called the Outreach Winter Gala). She has volunteered her time for various academic activities such as evaluating the MMIs, representing the Faculty of Dentistry at McGill’s Experience Careers in Health, leading a group at OHTH Sharing Smiles Day and being a Student Ambassador and Dentistry Apprenticeship 2 Student Leader. Outside of school hours she has also volunteered her time at the Welcome Hall Mission’s La Boutique. She also sits on the Executive Committee of the Federation of Canadian Dentistry Student Associations. Through all of this Nazanin has maintained high academic standing. Every year, the Lieutenant Governor’s Youth Medal is awarded to deserving graduates of high schools, CEGEPs and universities in Quebec. Six university students, three females and three males, are presented the award every year. This year’s ceremony took place on May 2.
