New Funds to Research Gender Violence

Professors Claudia Mitchell and IMPACTS Project Director, Dr. Shaheen Shariff, collaborate on expanding areas of research on gender-based violence

On May 31, the federal government announced it was investing more than $4.49 million for research tackling gender-based violence in Canada. Claudia Mitchell, a professor at McGill University and a partner on the IMPACTS Project, is the recipient of a grant of $739,200 for the 4-year project, "More Than Words: Studying the Impact of Arts Based Survivor Engagement on Families and Communities". McGill and numerous partners will contribute additional cash and in-kind contributions, bringing the total investment of more than $2 million to the project.

This research expands on Dr. Mitchell's work on the IMPACTS Project, which led by Dr. Shaheen Shariff. Currently, Dr. Shariff is the director of IMPACTS, a $2.6 million Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Partnership Grant that examines sexual violence at universities.
