The information provided below outlines the general procedures regarding McGill's internal Rhodes Scholarship selection process. Similar subject matter will be covered in the information sessions hosted in late August. For more information on the internal application specifics, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of the Dean of Students. General information about the Rhodes Scholarships, as well as application requirements, are available on the Rhodes website: www.rhodesscholarshiptrust.com/apply.


Key Dates for 2015

  • August 25-28: McGill info sessions
  • Thursday, September 11: Info session with Quebec Secretary @ Concordia
  • Tuesday, September 16: Personal Statement Workshop @ McGill
  • Tuesday, September 30: Interview Workshop @ McGill
  • Friday, September 26 (noon): Deadline for McGill applications
  • October 2 to 3: McGill Interviews
  • Wednesday, October 8: Deadline for Independent Students
  • Friday, October 17: Applications due to provincial secretaries

**The Office of the Dean of Students may ask candidates to provide TWO of their six reference letters during the McGill selection process. Candidates will be notified if they are required to provide letters of reference. Referees should email their reference letters DIRECTLY to deanofstudents [at] mcgill [dot] ca. Referees should be prepared to provide a reference letter by September 30, 2014.**

Independent Applicants

Applicants who are not recommended formally by McGill, applicants applying to another country's Rhodes Scholarship, or graduated students who still meet the eligibility requirements may choose to apply for the Rhodes Scholarship independently. Independent Applicants submit their applications directly to Rhodes online. The Office of the Dean of Students facilitates Independent Students and their application process by providing them with an official McGill Endorsement Letter.

As an Independent Student, in order to ensure that the Office of the Dean of Students will provide you with an endorsement letter, we ask that you please deanofstudents [at] mcgill [dot] ca (email us) your request by October 8, 2014. Please provide your:

  • Name
  • Student ID Number
  • Degree granted (for McGill grads)
  • Date degree was granted (for McGill grads)
  • Province to which you intend to apply.
