Peer support

When someone is having a hard time or confronting a challenge, speaking with others they can relate to can be a great comfort. If you’re interested in helping your fellow students by providing peer support, consider getting involved with the Consent McGill Peer Educator Program, offered through the Office for Sexual Violence Response, Support and Education (OSVRSE). The program is open to all McGill students and aims to raise awareness about consent education, sex positivity, healthier relationships and sexual and gender-based violence prevention. As a participant, you’ll lead change by developing and perfecting your communication, facilitation and event planning skills, and will directly contribute to creating a safer and more inclusive campus. You’ll also champion your own success and connect with folks who share your interests!

There are three types of Peer Educator roles: Workshop Facilitator, Event Planning and Social Media. Whichever you choose, all Peer Educators are trained as first responders to support people impacted by sexual and gender-based violence, and to provide educational initiatives, active listening and peer support to the McGill community.

The Peer Educator program runs throughout McGill’s academic year from September through April, with new training sessions taking place in September. Applications to join the team are now open and available on the OSVRSE MyInvolvement pageFor more information, visit the OSVRSE website or email osvrse [at] mcgill.ca. You can also find the OSVRSE on Facebook and Instagram.
