Facebook event\n\nAbout: The European Union and its member states seem to
be in a permanent\, never-ending crisis mode. In addition to the external
challenges such as the conflict in Syria\, the tensions in international t
rade policy and climate change\, the Union also has to cope with internal
 crises\, including the long-standing allegation of a democratic deficit\,
the growth of euroskeptic forces\, the unfinished exit of the United Kingd
om and the non-compliance with democratic standards and the rule of law in
various member states. Between 23 and 26 May 2019\, the EU’s citizens wil
l elect a new European Parliament. Polls are showing a rise of euroskeptic
but also green parties in most countries\, while the party groups that ar
e traditionally best represented in the European Parliament seem to be on
the losing end. Given these trends\, the electoral outcome of the 2019 EP
elections will not only influence the future composition of the European C
ommission\, the EU’s key executive\, but will also determine the future de
velopment of the European Union. Consequently\, the forthcoming elections
represent a crucial moment for the EU integration project. Against this ba
ckdrop\, the Centre for the Study of Democratic Citizenship (CSDC)\, the J
ean Monnet Centre Montréal and the Canada Research Chair in Electoral Demo
cracy will hold a public forum with four EU experts who will discuss the c
urrent key issues of EU integration and engage in an open debate with the
 event’s participants.\n\nSpeakers:\n\n\n	Laurie Beaudonnet - Université de
