Yanina is a Master of Social Work student at McGill University, specializing in International and Community Development. She joined the Centre for Research on Children and Families in March of 2020 as a research assistant under the supervision of Dr. Katherine Maurer. Yanina is a current recipient of a SSHRC scholarship (2019-2020), and former recipient of the Lieutenant Governor's Youth Medal (2018) for her sustained community action.
Prior to pursuing her graduate studies, Yanina completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Honours English Literature and Women’s Studies at Concordia University. Much of Yanina’s frontline work has centered on the issues of trauma and violence; she has previously worked in community settings with victims of sexual violence and abuse, and is currently counselling perpetrators of domestic violence at the McGill Domestic Violence Clinic. Yanina’s research interests include: the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and behavioural problems among youth and adults, restorative and rehabilitative models of justice, and the impact of poverty on youth mental health.
