The McGill Counselling Service PRIDE Team offers services by therapists who recognize the specific needs and challenges of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) individuals. While our entire team has experience working with LGBTQ students, the Pride Team is comprised of several LGBTQ-affirming clinicians who share a special interest in assisting this community.
The Pride Team provides professional services designed to assist students of diverse sexualities and gender identities in their personal, emotional, and social development and to support their academic success. We have extensive experience in assisting students with coming out issues, family matters, isolation, queer phobia, and many other concerns. Whether you are thinking of coming out or feel secure in your sexual orientation and/or gender identity but want to be assured of a competent and respectful environment in which to seek counselling, we are here to help.
We also recognize the unique challenges faced by trans individuals and have helped many students navigate the difficulties and rewards of claiming one’s true identity. We are affirming of the fact that all persons have the potential to live full functioning and emotionally healthy lives throughout their lifespan while embracing the full spectrum of gender diversity.
Whatever you are dealing with, whether LGBTQ specific issues, issues indirectly related to this, or issues that are not related at all, the therapeutic relationship will be one where you can find comfort in an environment that is respectful, affirming, supportive, and non-judgmental. If you are interested in consulting with a member of our PRIDE team, please mention this during your consultation appointment.
