Exemption by Examination

If you do not have the required academic credits but believe you have the equivalent necessary knowledge for a co-requisite or prerequisite to a program offered through Career and Professional Development (CPD), you may qualify to take an Exemption by Examination test.

These tests are optional and are not applicable to required or complementary course(s) within a program. If you take and pass the test, you will not have to take the prerequisite or co-requisite course for which the test was taken. You cannot review the written test or request a reread.

If you fail the test, you cannot retake it and you must enroll in the co-requisite or prerequisite course.

Eligibility Requirements

To take the test, you must meet all these criteria:

  • You must have applied and/or been admitted to a CPD program
  • You must not have registered for the course, received an unsatisfactory grade, or have attempted the course (this includes a grade of “W”)
  • In the case of CMSC 101 Mathematical Tools for Management Professionals and CMS2 500 Mathematics for Management, you must have been officially exempt from the prerequisite course CMSC 000 Foundations of Mathematics prior to being eligible to write the Exemption by Examination test.

NOTE: You will not be eligible to write the test for a course that has been assigned as a Qualifying Course.

To take the test, you must sign up at least 3 days in advance of the test dates. Space is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

There is a non-refundable fee payable by credit card upon registration.

The School reserves the right to re-schedule the test at any time.

In accordance with the Quebec government's latest directive, the University will remain closed until at least May 1. The Exemption by Examination tests scheduled for April 2020 have been cancelled. The Fall 2020 (August) Exemption by Examination Tests have been cancelled.
