You can apply for a program online. It’s quick, simple and secure.

  1. Choose a program of study.
  2. Review the admission requirements for the program you have selected and gather all necessary documentation.
Note: All students applying to the School of Continuing Studies programs must be proficient in English. Admission to a graduate level program requires a Canadian bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree as recognized by McGill University. The majority of our graduate level programs have a minimum CGPA requirement for admission.
  3. Ensure you have a credit card (Visa or Mastercard) for the non-refundable application fee of $98.43 ($101.38 as of winter 2024). The fee must be paid online to submit your application. Apply now »
  4. Upon completing your online application, you will receive a confirmation email with a McGill ID number and a 6-character PIN (Personal Identification Number).
  5. Within 24 - 48 hours after receiving your e-mail confirmation, you can track the status of your application and upload your supporting documents, including transcripts (if applicable), by logging into Minerva (McGill’s online student information system) with your McGill ID and PIN.
  6. Ensure that you have uploaded all required supporting documents, as per the admission requirements of your chosen program.
Note: Admission decisions are taken according to official and final documents. We do not issue conditional admissions based on unofficial documents or interim transcripts. Documents uploaded in Minerva are considered unofficial documents and are used in the review process of your file. Mailing address and email address for official documents are provided by email once we have reviewed your uploaded documents.
  7. Once your file has been reviewed and a final decision has been made, admitted students will receive a Letter of Admission confirming the program that you have been admitted to, along with registration instructions. You can then register for your courses online during the appropriate registration period.

International students and students with international credentials

Get started well in advance with all aspects of your application. Because of the time it can take to request and process documents such as transcripts, visas, study permits, or Certificate of Acceptance of Quebec (CAQ), you should not delay in getting started with the application process. For more information, please refer to the International Students section.

International credentials:

Students with international credentials will be reviewed for equivalency. In some cases, students will be asked to provide a comparative evaluation. Note, that at SCS, we only accept comparative evaluations done by the Ministère de l’Immigration, Francisation et Intégration of Quebec
Graduate students who have received a degree from a university outside of Canada are responsible for having their degree evaluated for equivalency.

Sending official documents of previous studies (university-level)

When do I need to provide official documentation?

Once you have uploaded copies of your academic background (transcripts, bachelor’s diploma), the Admissions office will review your file, add the required official documentation to your Minerva checklist, and send you an email with further information on how to provide official documentation. Official documents of previous studies are required for admission to graduate programs or if you want us to consider your studies for English proficiency. Your application can only be processed and completed once we have received all the required official documents. While you must apply by the deadline date, you may still upload outstanding supporting documents afterwards as they become available.

What are official documents?

Official documents must be sent by the issuing institution directly to McGill University in sealed envelopes or electronically. They should be recently issued and be endorsed by the home university (by signature, seal of the university). They need to be sent in the original language, the official language of your institution.

Please note that we have specific requirements for documents from China, Iran, India, and Bangladesh. Further information is provided once we have received your application.

a) Official Transcripts

Transcripts must include all courses, credits, and grades for each year of study.

If the transcript does not indicate a degree has been conferred (see details under B), a copy of the degree certificate (diploma) must be provided.

In case you studied at more than one institution, we will most probably need official transcripts from both / all institutions.

In case your university does not issue official transcripts and for third parties, certified photocopies of the original transcript are acceptable:

  • If the documents are certified by the issuing university: stamped with the university steal, signed and dated recently by the registrar’s office

  • They must be sent directly by the issuing Institution to McGill.

b) Proof of Degree Completion (proof of graduation)

A certified copy of the degree certificate must accompany transcripts that do not clearly indicate:

  • The title of degree awarded (bachelor’s degree, licenciatura, master’s, etc.)

  • That a degree has been conferred/awarded/granted; and

  • The date on which the degree was conferred.

Note: Many institutions will include this information on the transcript; in which case there is no need to submit a certified copy of the degree certificate.

c) Translations

If the official language of instruction at your institution is not English or French, the official documents (transcript, degree certificate) must be sent by your institution to McGill in the original language and must be accompanied by certified English or French translations.

If the institution you attended cannot translate the documents into English or French, you must have them translated by an OTTIAQ translator in Quebec. The OTTIAQ translations must match the official transcript and degree certificate sent by the university to McGill.

How to Send my Documents

Official transcripts and degree certificates are sent by the issuing institution directly to McGill University in sealed envelopes or electronically.

Mailing address and email address are provided once we have received your application. Official documents can also be sent electronically by an approved service provider (e.g. Parchment, NSC, Digitary)

Please do not request official documents from your institution before we have sent you an email with further information on document requirements and mailing and email address for official documents.

All documents will be retained by McGill.

Sending official high school documentation or CEGEP transcripts

When do I need to provide official documents?

Once you have uploaded copies of your high school transcripts, CEGEP transcript or your A-level/GCSE/IGCSE/GCE O-Level exams, the Admissions office will review your file, add the required official documentation to your Minerva checklist, and send you an email with further information on how to provide official documentation.

Your application can only be processed and completed once we have received all the required official documents. While you must apply by the deadline date, you may still upload outstanding supporting documents afterwards as they become available.

What are official documents?

Official documents must be sent by the issuing institution (e.g. School/School Board/Ministry) directly to McGill University in sealed envelopes or electronically. They must be recently issued and be endorsed by the home university (by signature, seal of the institution).

Note: If you studied in Quebec and provided us with your Permanent Code, CEGEP transcripts will automatically be forwarded to McGill University.

How to Send my Documents

Official documents are sent by the issuing institution directly to McGill University in sealed envelopes or electronically.

Mailing address and email address are provided once we have received your application. Official documents can also be sent electronically by an approved service provider (e.g. Parchment, NSC, Digitary)
