The McGill University School of Human Nutrition comprehends undergraduate and graduate programs in human nutrition and dietetics. Research is carried out in foundational science to clinical, community and international fields. Research themes include gene/nutrient interactions, Indigenous Peoples’ nutrition and food safety and food security, nutritional status & food security in low- and middle-income countries, medical nutrition therapy, nutritional interventions to minimize chronic diseases including obesity, diabetes, and cancer, and clinical applications of nutritional interventions in hospitalized patients. The international research activities include long-term collaborations in Africa as well as South and Central America ,and the Caribbean.

Placement Description & Logistics

Project Assistant, Intern

The intern will support the Queen Elizabeth Scholars - West Africa (QES-WA) program (Principal Investigator (PI): Dr. Marquis). This project is a 3-year training program to enhance the research and professional capacity of doctoral students, post-graduate fellows, and early career professionals working in West Africa. The program will focus on working with the scholars' leadership, research ethics, as well as field research skills. The intern will provide the liaison between participating institutions and the scholars themselves.

 

Internship Tasks

Expected outputs

Task 1: Develop orientation materials and operations handbook for the new QES-WA scholars

Task 2: Facilitate communications for the team.

Task 3: Help with placement of scholars at non-academic institutions.
Task 4: Assist with coordination of training workshops for scholars.
Task 5: Assist with reports for funder

Deliverable 1: Orientation and operations electronic notebooks for distribution to the scholars.

Deliverable 2: Minutes of meetings and record of emails of communication.

Deliverable 3: Letters of acceptance of scholars by non-academic institutions.

Deliverable 4: Schedule of workshops for the year with speakers and materials.

Deliverable 5: Assigned sections of the annual report.
