City of Montreal infrastructure project on Peel St.
Update of Sept. 17, 2018:
The intersection of Peel St. and Doctor-Penfield Ave. remains closed to vehicular traffic. We have not yet been given a new date for its reopening. We will update this page as we receive more information.
Update of August 22, 2018 :
The City has informed the University that the intersection of Peel St. and Doctor-Penfield Ave. will remain closed to vehicular traffic until Sept. 15.
July 30, 2018 - Important update about University St. and bus routes
The 144 East bus will also be rerouted through University, as other vehicular traffic. However, a newly-announced road intervention by the City of Montreal on University St. the week of July 30, 2018, will force the closure of University St. to vehicular circulation between Sherbrooke St. and Milton St. from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. During those hours, northbound traffic (including the 144 East bus) will be rerouted through Aylmer St. between Sherbrooke and Milton.
During the closure of the Peel St. and Doctor-Penfield Ave. intersection, the 107 North bus will not travel north of Sherbrooke St. It will return to Peel St. for its southbound route via Metcalfe St. and de Maisonneuve Bldv.
July 26, 2018 - Peel and Doctor-Penfield intersection to be closed several weeks
As of Monday, July 30, 2018, work is scheduled to begin at the intersection of Peel St. and Doctor-Penfield Ave. that will force the complete closure of the intersectionto vehicular traffic for up to a month. Northbound motorists who normally use Peel St. will be redirected toward University St. and southbound motorists toward Côte-des-Neiges Road.
Although vehicles will not be able to cross the intersection, we don’t anticipate this work to impede access to McGill buildings for pedestrians, mobility-impaired members of the community, nor service vehicles that must reach our buildings (local circulation will be allowed).
Traffic direction on the upper portion of McTavish St. (between Doctor-Penfield Ave. and Pine Ave.) will be changed (southbound instead of northbound) to ensure parking permit holders who park in the Education Building can continue to access the garage and to provide vehicle access to McGill buildings located on Doctor-Penfield Ave.
