Applying In Person
Important Information for Students interested in lessons on the West Island
CANCELLEDThe Macdonald Campus office will be open on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide help for new applicants interested in lessons on the West Island. After this day, we are more than happy to help all new applicants at our Downtown Office.
Submit a completed Personal Data Form.Submit a completed Teacher Assignment Form.Provide a copy of ID with the student’s full name (ex. RAMQ card).Pay the course fees in full (or the $100.00 non-refundable deposit in the Fall Term) (Payment Methods).
Applying Online by ZOOM
To apply online for instrumental instruction at the McGill Conservatory, new students must:- Request an online appointment with one of our representatives to apply (appointments may last up to 40 minutes).
- A representative will send an email invitation for the online meeting within 2 business days of receiving the request.
- Applicants must attend meeting with McGill Conservatory representative to complete their application and to pay the course fees in full (or the $100.00 non-refundable deposit in Fall term) by phone.
2. Teacher Assignment
New students are assigned a teacher based on the availability, previous musical experience and learning needs they have specified on their Teacher Assignment Form.
- Teacher assignments commence on the Start Date indicated in the Teacher Assignment Schedule for each Term. Once assigned, the teacher will contact the new student, within 3 to 5 business days, to establish a weekly lesson time.
- At this stage a the student is not yet registered.
- Applications submitted less than 5 days before the Registration Deadline for the applicable Term may be subject to the $30.00 Late Registration Fee.
- In the event a weekly lesson time cannot be established with the assigned teacher, new students must contact and inform the McGill Conservatory as soon as possible.
3. Registration
Once a weekly time has been established with the assigned teacher, new students will be registered by the Office for their first term of lessons.
4. Payment (Fall term only)
Settle the remaining balance by the Fall term Payment Deadline using the accepted Payment Methods.
SATURDAY MORNING CHILDREN'S CLASSES
Little Musicians, Orff, Ukulele Group Class and Parents' Class
Applying for Children’s Classes
To apply for Children’s Courses at the McGill Conservatory, parents must visit our downtown office and book an online appointment to:
Submit the completed Registration Forms for each child. When paying in person it is not necessary to complete the credit card authorization section.Complete the application form included in the online appointment email confirmation.Parents interested in the registering for the Parents' Class must also submit Registration Forms under their name.Provide a copy of ID(s) with the student's full name(s) (ex. RAMQ card)- Pay the course fees and the $15.00 registration fee in full (Payment Methods).
Registration is completed at the McGill Conservatory's downtown office after the application has been processed and all required fees have been paid in full.
In the week that the classes begin, parents will be informed of their child's (or children's) class time(s), classroom(s) and instructor(s) by e-mail.
THEORY AND EAR TRAINING GROUP CLASSES
Appling for Theory and Ear Training Group Classes
To apply for a Theory and Ear Training Group Class at the McGill Conservatory, new students must visit our downtown office and book an online appointment to:
- Submit a completed Personal Data Form.
- Submit a completed Registration Form.
- Provide a copy of ID with the student’s full name (ex. RAMQ card).
- Pay the $15.00 registration fee and Course Fees in full (Payment Methods).
- Attend the Theory and Ear Training Placement Test.
After the tests have been evaluated, new students will be assigned to a section for which they will be registered.
CHOIR, STRING ENSEMBLE AND JAZZ COURSES
Applying for a Choir, String Ensemble or a Jazz Course
To apply for Choir, String Ensemble or a Jazz Course at the McGill Conservatory, new students must visit our downtown office and:
- Submit a completed Personal Data Form.
- Submit a completed Registration Form. For String Ensemble and Jazz Courses: Please indicate your instrument.
- Provide a copy of ID with the student’s full name (ex. RAMQ card).
- Pay the $15.00 registration fee and Ensemble Course Fees or Jazz Combo Course Fees in full (Payment Methods).
- Attend the assigned Audition Time for choir or jazz courses.
After all auditions have taken place, new students who have been assigned to an ensemble are registered.
IMPORTANT
- When unable to visit our downtown office, remote applications to the McGill Conservatory
are accepted by fax or regular mail onlymust take place online via ZOOM with a McGill Conservatory Representative. Please contact conservatory.music [at] mcgill.ca for details. When applying remotely, prospective students must complete the Registration Form in order to pay the non-refundable deposit or their course fees with an accepted credit card.- All students must respect the Deadlines and Term Dates at the McGill Conservatory.
- Incomplete remote applications will not be processed.
