Instrumental Lessons

Private lessons are offered in orchestral and keyboard instruments, guitar, recorder and voice. Private lessons in jazz style and improvisation are also offered in some instruments.

Please consult the Dates and Fees page of our website for information about Important Dates and Course Fees. 30, 45 and 60 minutes lessons are available.

Lessons normally take place once a week, on the day and time agreed to between the teacher and the student, and in the room reserved for those lessons. Please be on time for your lessons.

Students must have their own instrument for daily practice between lessons. It is not possible for McGill Conservatory students to practice in the Strathcona Music Building of the Schulich School of Music of McGill University.

Students may be required to purchase textbooks, scores, and other materials. Lessons are taught at the McGill Conservatory (Downtown - Strathcona Music Building of the Schulich School of Music of McGill University; West-Island - Macdonald Campus - 4 Stewart Park) or at the home studio of the teacher. Our teachers do not teach in students' homes.

Examinations in every instrument are available in June right after the Spring Term. A separate examination fee is charged. Students wishing to apply for an examination must do so by March 1.

Please read the infomation on New Students on our website.

Students 8 years old and older registering for instrumental lessons, upon recommendation by their teacher, are strongly encouraged to take Theory and Ear Training courses.
