Little Musicians

About the Class

These classes are designed to be child-centered and developmentally-appropriate. Children are encouraged to explore their inherent musicality while developing the necessary skills for entrance into private musical studies.

Each lesson will include a variety of activities including singing, moving, and creative exercises that are centered on the children’s musical skills and sensibilities. An introduction to basic musical concepts will be developed through activities that facilitate the exploration of in-tune singing, small percussion instrument playing, and musical comprehension (tempo, dynamics, pitch).

The maximum class size is sixteen (16) children under the direction of 1 instructor with the support of 1 assistant, thus providing the children with the benefit of individual attention while learning in a motivating group environment. Several sections are offered; however, due to the popularity of the course, parents are encouraged to register early in order to ensure a place for their child. Classes are determined based on age.

Please note that parents are not permitted in the classroom – it is our experience that children will pay less attention to the teacher when other adults are present. Kindly discuss this with your child.

This class is intended for the parents of all Little Musicians students no matter what age and will help the parents expand the child’s learning beyond the classroom and into the home.

Parents will learn the ‘how and why’ of early-childhood music pedagogy, the basics of music theory, and an overview of the different techniques and activities used to teach children at this young age. Parents will be provided with resources to continue their child’s musical learning at home.
