Are you a first-year student?

Parents & Families of Students

Arrival at McGill is a big event — not just for students, but for parents and families of new students as well.

More information, resources, services, and notices for new students' parents and families are available at

Parents and families of new students may be interested in:

  • CL&E's Summer Parent Webinars where parents of new students learn what our staff have to share from their many years of working with first-year students. Some of the topics covered include: the role of a parents/family, support resources at McGill, confidentiality, transition issues that may arise, health insurance, and the role of Campus Life & Engagement in supporting new students.
  • CL&E's Parent Information Sessions (Top Questions Parents AskMcGill), where you will learn about the support services that exist for McGill students and get tips on how your role from home can help us support our students. Representatives from Campus Life & Engagement, International Student Services, Health Services and the Parents Association as well as other McGill service units will also be in attendance to answer questions.
  • The Parents Tent, a one-stop resource centre for everything McGill will open the last week of August. It is a place where you can meet representatives from the Parents Association and other new McGill parents; inquire about on-campus services and resources available to your student; find out about other services such as banking, credit cards, cell phone plans and insurance; and get a McGill Parents Handbook which is full of useful information.
  • McGill’s Frugal Scholar Money Management Program/ Facts on Fees sessions are informative sessions given jointly by Scholarships and Student Aid, and Student Accounts. They cover topics about the services offered by their offices, as well as an in-depth explanation of everything related to tuition, fees, billing, payment, and so much more. The schedule is listed in the Parents Tent brochure, found on the on the Parents section of the Alumni Association site.

Parents and families are always welcome to drop by, email, or call our office if they have any questions or want more information about studying at McGill and/or living in Montreal.
