The goal of my laboratory is to better understand inhibitory neurotransmission in parasitic heminths. This system is controlled, in large part, by a group of receptors called ligand-gated chloride channels (LGCCs). Specifically, my goal is better understand how this system is organized (at the genomic and functional levels), the biological roles of specific LGCCs and the functional relationships between different classes of channels. This will determine the potential of these channels as future targets for the next generation of anthelmintics.
