This summer, the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Montréal (CIRM) is happy to welcome Ph.D student in Geography Alex Gaio as well as lecturer and researcher in Sociolinguistics Fabio Scetti as part of a one-month and three-month research stay, respectively!
From June 25 to July 11, 2020, Student Services surveyed new and returning degree-seeking students about their plans for the remote Fall 2020 semester, on topics ranging from living situations to access to technology to student needs and well-being.
We've compiled the survey results for both Graduate and Undergraduate populations. View the results here.
In May 2020, Teaching and Learning Services (TLS), Student Services, and Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) collaborated to launch the COVID-19 Student Impact Survey to help units across the University better understand the student experience in the Winter 2020 term. With a 22% response rate from the over 30,000 graduate and undergraduate students who received the survey, the results will be used to inform how we serve and support students in the coming year.
The availability of reliable, rapid diagnostics is key to reopening our economies. Canada has an opportunity to take a leadership role in accelerating the development of these tests through a coordinated Canadian response. The goal is to support researchers to build networks and find collaborators/industry partners to advance their ideas to clinical trial and mass production. To that end, Dr. Mona Nemer and the Office of the Chief Science Advisor (OCSA) is creating an inventory of R&D activities for COVID-19 diagnostics in Canadian academic institutions.
This message is sent on behalf of Martha Crago, Vice-Principal (Research and Innovation).
Dear members of the McGill research community,
As part of a pan-Canadian effort to quickly mobilize research in response to COVID-19, McGill’s Office of the Vice-Principal Research and Innovation (OVPRI) is coordinating information about relevant McGill research. This includes, but is not limited to, clinical or medical research, testing, devices, diagnosis, treatment, modeling, and social implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.
McGill University wants to hear students’ experiences and opinions on a variety of health and wellness topics, including sexual health, substance use, nutrition, and mental health. We're launching two well-being surveys in the month of March to collect student feedback and better shape our future services and programming.
Where does work take place?
Economists, planners and city managers rely on the assumption that it takes place in offices and other buildings dedicated to economic activity, and in neighbourhoods likewise dedicated to economic activity. However, many people in the laborforce move around and much of their work can now occur in cafés, at home, in restaurants or in co-working spaces: but we still know very little about what types of work activity take place where, and about how workers feel about these new work arrangements.
