Canada is at the forefront of global efforts to end child marriage abroad. Yet this practice remains legal and persists across the country. In Canada, more than 3,600 marriage certificates were issued to children, usually girls, under the age of 18 between 2000 and 2018, according to a new study from researchers at McGill University. In recent years, an increasing number of child marriages have been common-law unions.

Finding the right child care can be a frustrating -- and expensive -- process for parents around the world, from New York to Nairobi. Access to adequate child care for all has become a "global" need, said Shelley Clark, a demographer and professor of sociology at McGill University in Canada, who has studied child care and other family dynamics.

But a new study by McGill University researchers finds that divorce rates across 20 African countries over the past 20 years have remained stable or declined.
