On 21-23 June 2023, the Directorate-General of Legal Affairs of the German Federal Ministry of Defence hosted the Conference on the “McGill Manual on International Law Applicable to Military Uses of Outer Space” (MILAMOS). The three-day event was organised at the Federal Academy for Security Policy (Bundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik, BAKS), and held at the historic Schönhausen Palace in Berlin, Germany.

Education that changes outcomes for whole communities—that’s the aim of the project, Engineering Engagement in School Curricula: Multi-year Design-thinking Projects for Indigenous and Marginalized Youth, led by Professor and Chair of the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering, Richard Chromik, Faye Siluk, and Robert Pozeg of the Faculty of Engineering’s E-IDEA initiative (Engineering Inclusivity, Diversity and Equity Advancement), which today received funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada’s (NSERC) PromoScience grants program.

Congratulations to Justin Chang (Auclair group), Pierre-Olivier Ferko (Moores group - Photo), Samantha Gateman (Mauzeroll group), Igor Huskic (Friscic group), Victoria Jackiewicz (Arndsten group) and Siting Ni (Lennox group) for winning the first McGill University Chemistry Outreach Awards. From helping to found the Outreach group to getting students of all ages excited about Chemistry, these trainees have worked hard to communicate science to the general public in a fun, safe and engaging way.

Congratulations to Valérie Toupin-Dubé, BSc(AgEnvSc) '16, winner of Equiterre’s Laure Waridel Bursary. The bursary was established in 2008 by Equiterre and the Caisse d’économie solidaire Desjardins for students committed to pursuing and disseminating research on environmental and social action.
