Puel and Porfilio win three awards apiece at 15th annual track and cross-country gala

Puel celebrates birthday, then wins two bronze medals at CIS track championships

McGill's Charlène Puel snared a couple of bronze medals on Friday at the CIS indoor track and field championship, a three-day competition at the University of Manitoba’s Max Bell Fieldhouse in Winnipeg. The mathematics senior from Lyon, France, who celebrated her 22nd birthday on Thursday, ended up third in a photo finish in the 1000m. Her other podium finish came as anchor of the 4x800 relay.

McGill sends 14 to CIS track & field championships

McGill University has qualified nine women and five men for the 2012 CIS indoor track and field championships in Winnipeg this week. The three-day national meet, hosted for the first time since 2005 by the University of Manitoba, kicks off Thursday at 11 a.m. Central with the season awards luncheon at Marshall McLuhan Hall on the campus of the U of M.

The McGill men's hockey team remain the No.2 team in the CIS men's hockey rankings this week. UNB, the reigning national champions, top the for the 13th time in 16 polls this season, and for the third week in a row.

Puel and McCuaig glitter with gold at RSEQ provincial track championship

McGill teammates Charlène Puel, a middle distance runner from Lyon, France, and Sarah McCuaig of Waterloo, Ont., combined for five gold medals and each received a major award at the RSEQ provincial track and field championships, a two-day meet in Trois-Rivières over the weekend. McGill finished second of six teams on the women's side and came in third in the men's division.

McGill to host largest indoor track meet in Canada, Jan. 27-28

Olympic sprinter Hank Palmer of Pierrefonds, Que., will be among a handful of national team athletes participating at the 17th annual McGill Team Challenge track and field meet this weekend at Tomlinson Fieldhouse, located in the McGill University Sports Centre at 475 Pine Avenue West.

Soccer star shocked by her sprinting success

MONTREAL — It didn't take long for Alexandra Morin-Boucher, 22, to get up to speed in the world of sprinting. The McGill athlete has been known as a star soccer player, having netted 36 goals over four seasons. But when she took her maiden 300 meter dash, she surprised everybody with her blazing speed, even herself.
