A group of 22 researchers and government planners from 12 countries in Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) completed a three week intensive training in Gaborone, Botswana (1-19 September 2014). Together with a further three week block in April 2015, this covers the credits required for a McGill Family Medicine Certificate in planning, management, education and research in primary health care.

Dr. Bergman becomes a member of the board of directors of the Institut National d'Excellence en Santé et en Services Sociaux (INESSS)
INESSS is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors. On February 26, 2014, the Council of Ministers proceeded with the appointments of Mr. Howard Bergman, Chair of the McGill Department of Family Medicine, and Mr. Robert Maguire, specialist in community health at the Agence de la santé et des services sociaux du Bas-Saint-Laurent.
The Department of Family Medicine is proud to announce that Dr. Michael Malus was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Created in 2012 to mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, this commemorative medal served to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
Dr Maxine Dumas Pilon accepts the position of President Elect of the Québec College of Family Physicians
It is with great pride that we announce that Dr Maxine Dumas Pilon has recently accepted the position of President Elect of the Québec College of Family Physicians (QCFP) http://www.cqmf.qc.ca. Dr Dumas Pilon will be the first president from McGill since Richard Handfield–Jones (1989 -1990). Her mandate as a president will start at the QCFP Annual General Meeting during the Family Medicine Forum in Québec City next Fall. Dr Dumas Pilon practices family medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital.
On October 25, 2013, the Department of Family Medicine inaugurated its new offices at 5858 Côte-des-Neiges. The Chancellor of McGill University, Mr. Arnold Steinberg, the Vice-Principal of Health Affairs and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. David Eidelman, along with the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, Dr. Howard Bergman, made the Department’s new location official by means of a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

This award from the Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME) serves to promote, recognize and reward faculty committed to medical education in Canadian medical schools. Recipients of the award are selected based on their contribution to medical education deemed to be valuable within their medical school.
