Professor Nancy Heath’s research team is delivering a face-to-face training of high school teachers and technicians using a manualized program (StressOFF Strategies for Teens; SOS4Teens) which they developed. StressOFF uses mindfulness-based stress management techniques. The training starts next week with a two-day session as part of a Ministère de l'éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS) Action Research Grant in partnership with the Lester B.

Dr. Jeffrey Derevensky, Professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology was recently appointed as a member of the Advisory Board on English Education under the Ministre de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport.
The Advisory Board advises MELS on all matters affecting the educational services offered in English elementary and secondary schools and adult and vocational education centres.
Dr. Krista Muis, Associate Professor, in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology's Learning Science Program was recently interviewed in the Globe and Mail about active learning, as opposed to the the traditional approach in classrooms.
Dr. Eve-Marie Quintin will be joining the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology in August 2014 as an Assistant Professor in School/Applied Child Psychology. Dr. Quintin holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the Université du Québec à Montréal. She worked as Postdoctoral Researcher at the Georgia Institute of Technology, School of Psychology, and is a registered psychologist and neuropsychologist through the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec.
Dr. Jacob Burack, Professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, was recently interviewed in Canadian Jewish News for his research in the development of attention and cognition among typically developing children, persons with autism, and persons with specific syndromes associated with intellectual disabilities.
Dr. Bruce Shore, Professor Emeritus, of the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology was honored with the 2014 Canadian Committee for Graduate Students in Education (CCGSE) Mentorship Award.
Tanya Chichekian, a Doctoral Candidate in the Leanring Sciences program, Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, was recently honored with a Recognition Award from the Canadian Asssociation for Teacher Education (CATE) for her Doctoral dissertation's contribution to research on teacher education in Canada, entitled "Self-Efficiancy for Inquiry-Based Instruction" Surviving the Leap from Student-Teacher to an Inquiry-Oriented Novice Teacher".

The Richard E. Snow Award is given to an individual who has made a significant early career contribution.
