For professional athletes, the pressures of competition and stigma surrounding mental health issues can be debilitating to the point where some are leaving the arena for good. Young hockey players are no exception. Fear of negative career repercussions can mean athletes avoid disclosing their mental health concerns.

Professor Julie Côté will be re-appointed as Chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Professor Côté has served as Chair of the Department since 2016 and will be serving her second three-year term, effective June 1, 2019.
Dr. Côté received her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Physiology Department with the Université de Montréal, and her Master's in Science with the University of Wisconsin's Kinesiology Department.

Muscle malfunctions may be as simple as a slight strain after exercise or as serious as heart failure and muscular dystrophy. A new technique developed at McGill now makes it possible to look much more closely at how sarcomeres, the basic building blocks within all skeletal and cardiac muscles, work together. It’s a discovery that should advance research into a wide range of muscle malfunctions.
