Dear members of the McGill community:

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of H. Arnold Steinberg, McGill Chancellor Emeritus. Mr. Steinberg died suddenly this morning in Montreal. He was 82 years old.

On behalf of the McGill community, I send my deepest condolences to his wife, Professor emerita Blema Steinberg, their three children, Margot, Donna and Adam, and their families.

McGill University announced today a new name and vision that will position the Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning at the forefront of simulated training in the health sciences. Thanks to a $7.5 million gift from Arnold and Blema Steinberg, the Centre will be expanding its facilities, enhancing its technologies and broadening its scope of activities.

As McGill University’s first Jewish chancellor, it is probably appropriate that Arnold Steinberg is “kvelling” about the amazing students who have built the McGill brand by spreading the gospel about the Harvard of the North and wowing the world with the expertise McGill instilled in them.
