Dr. Christina Wolfson appointed Deputy Research Integrity Officer

Dr. Christina Wolfson, Professor in the Department of Medicine and in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Occupational Health, has been appointed McGill’s new Deputy Research Integrity Officer, commencing on January 1, 2016. Effective June 1, 2016, Dr. Wolfson will become McGill’s Research Integrity Officer for a three-year term, ending May 31, 2019.

Mathematica software now Free for Students

Mathematica, from Wolfram Research, is a powerful computational software used for mathematical modeling and data visualization.  McGill IT Services has been providing Mathematica to Faculty & Staff, and in computer labs across the University for the past few years.  Now it is also available to students via the McGill Software site (www.mcgill.ca/software).

FRQ Indirect Research Costs Reform

Dear Colleagues, I am writing to draw your attention to a change in the way the Government of Quebec will distribute indirect research funds to institutions. Previously McGill, like other Quebec institutions, received an envelope each year for applicable indirect costs, based on Système d’information sur la recherche universitaire (SIRU) reporting. However, starting April 1, 2014 and as a result of the Politique nationale de la recherche et de l'innovation (PNRI), the Quebec government is now allocating indirect costs via two separate mechanisms:

Revised Report of Invention Form now online

The first step to disclosing an invention is to complete a Report of Invention (ROI) form. A revised ROI form is now available online here: https://www.mcgill.ca/research/researchers/ip/reporting. The form was updated to address changing conditions concerning software and issues of copyright. The format remains similar to the previous version, but provides McGill’s inventors with greater flexibility in describing their technology and identifying their collaborators.
