Organized by the Women's Y Foundation of Montreal, the Women of Distinction Gala publicly recognizes exceptional Montreal women who have distinguished themselves by their personal or professional achievements, their social commitment and their contribution to the advancement of women. Professor Mary Dean Lee is a finalist in the Business and Professions category. The Women of Distinction Gala will be held on April 23, 2003.
BCom student Andres Friedman and alumnus Dan Park (BCom'02) have been awarded Scarlet Keys by Principal Heather Munroe-Blum for their outstanding leadership and contributions to the Faculty of Management.
McGill University has broken its own record for success in the Royal Bank Academic All-Canadian competition, with 132 top student-athletes in Canadian Interuniversity Sport in 2001-2002.
McGill BCom students came in second overall and placed first in academic events at the 15th annual Jeux du Commerce, held from January 17-19 at the Université du Québec en Outaouais, in Hull. McGill BCom students had their best showing in 15 years, placing first in the academic competitions (Human Resources, Finance and Debate), and came in second and third in seven other events.
The Financial Times survey of 100 MBA programs in the world, released today, gives the McGill MBA program top ranks in North America: first for international mobility of its graduates, first for percentage of international professors, and in the top five for percentage of international students. Worldwide, McGill graduates rank in the top ten — for the third year in a row — for their international mobility. This criterion is made up of various components, the most important being the percentage of graduates who work in different countries after graduation.
BCom students Vanessa Guimond and Dave Lavallee placed first overall in the Accounting portion of the Inter-Collegial Business Competition (ICBC) held at Queen's last week. In a first round of written cases where Canadian and international universities were invited to participate last October, Dave and Vanessa placed in the top six, which allowed them to take part in the accounting case competition on January 10. Congratulations also go to Accounting professor Steve Fortin, who coached the students throughout the fall.
