Dear colleagues, students, alumni and friends, In February, I wrote to you about the economic challenges facing McGill and our plan to develop solutions to ensure McGill will continue to thrive. As promised, I am now sharing our recommendations for next year’s budget (fiscal year 2009-10).
Dear members of the McGill community, I am writing to you to describe McGill’s financial challenges in a time of unprecedented economic uncertainty and our approach for facing this challenge. I ask for your ongoing support as we remain committed to our great University and its powerful and worthy mission during an unpredictable time.
I am pleased to announce that Vaughan Dowie will serve as Interim Vice-Principal (Public Affairs) beginning July 23, 2008, and until a new Vice-Principal is named.

I am pleased to announce that the Board of Governors, at its May 22 meeting, approved the appointment of Mr. François R. Roy as Vice-Principal (Administration and Finance), effective June 4, 2007.
It is with regret that the University accepts the decision of Professor Morty Yalovsky to step down from his role as Vice-Principal (Administration & Finance), effective January 1, 2007.
Michael Goldbloom will serve as the next Vice-Principal (Inter-Institutional Relations) of McGill University, effective January 3, 2007. He has also been appointed Senior Fellow in Media and Public Policy with the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada (MISC) and Media@McGill.
Our deepest sympathies go to family members and friends who suffered loss and our heartfelt hopes for speedy recovery are with those who were injured or harmed. McGill is offering to help Dawson College and the victims in any way we can and provide counselling to students in the wake of this tragedy.
