Through a unanimous agreement, the winner of this year’s Eleanor Stubley Recording Prize is Sarah Rossy (BMus ’17, MMus ’19) who will work together with Jennifer Nulsen (MMus ’18) on the project “Jazz in the Balance: Exploring Music Making and Creation in Gender and Genre-Balanced Teams and Environments.”

To open the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal’s 85th season, composer Matthew Ricketts (BMus ’09) has been commissioned to write a new chamber opera. Titled “Chaakapesh, The Trickster’s Quest,” this work showcases two singers, narrator, and orchestra, in three scenes. To celebrate this exciting opportunity, we asked Matthew a few questions in a recent email exchange.

Every week, the Schulich School of Music sees musicians from all over Montreal come together to learn about the music of Brazil. In a ten-week free workshop directed by guitarist Rodrigo Simões (through support of Schulich's Jazz Performance and Music Education areas), a group of over 20 participants has the chance to learn the ins-and-outs of samba, Baiaõ and maxixe on their main instruments, as well as perform supporting roles on a variety of percussion instruments.

Simone McIntosh (M.Mus 2017) continues her streak of successes with an upcoming appearance singing the title role in Rossini's "La Cenerentola." The production, which will be put on by Vancouver Opera in the spring, will be McIntosh's first mainstage appearance in a lead role.
After graduating from Schulich (where she won the 2016 Wirth Vocal Prize), she has gone on to work in the Canadian Opera Company's Studio Ensemble for the 2017/18 season, among other notable national appearances.
