Faculty and Grads of Schulich nominated for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards

This year three members of the Schulich family are up for Grammy awards: recent graduates Esteli Gomez, and Brian Losch, as well as Prof. Matt Haimovitz.  While at Schulich, soprano Esteli Gomez studied with Prof. Sanford Sylvan.

Schulich Jazz students and professor share their music with residents of Lac Mégantic

It goes without saying that following the tragic disaster of July 6, 2013, residents of Lac Mégantic need all the support that can be provided to them, and  times of tragedy, music can be a tremendous comfort. It was in this spirit that Robert Roy, organizer of cultural events in Lac Mégantic, asked Rémi Bolduc, saxophonist and professor at McGill University , to take part in a weekend of concerts for residents with the aim of offering a moment of serenity to all who would attend.  Prof.

Schulich alum Yolanda Bruno and student Emily Belvedere shine at the Standard Life OSM Competition

24 year old violinist Yolanda Bruno was named the 2013 Grand Prize Winner at the Standard Life OSM Competition this past weekend.  Her prize includes a  performance with the OSM under the direction of Edward Gardner on December 11, at the Maison symphonique, recitals and performances across Canada and South America, as well as broadcasts and recordings at the Radio-Canada studios and residencies at the Banff and Orford Arts Centers. Schulich student Emily Belvedere was awarded a prize for the best performance of a Canadian work for harp.

Julia Dokter awarded the 2013 Noah Greenberg prize by the American Musicological Society

Julia Dokter received the 2013 Noah Greenberg award for outstanding research/performance projects for her research/performance project into 17th-century tactus and tempo and the application of this research to the music of Matthias Weckmann. She is a doctoral candidate in organ performance (D.Mus., 2014) studying under Hans-Ola Ericsson. She holds a Bachelor of Music (McMaster University, Canada), a Masters of Arts in Music Theory (McGill University, Canada), and a Masters of Organ Performance (McGill University). Related Links:

Patrick Hansen at the Segal Centre this weekend

In advance of the season-opening production of Ain’t Misbehavin’, the musical’s co-creator, Murray Horwitz, will take part in the traditional Sunday @ the Segal on September 29 at 11 a.m. He will be joined by director of opera at McGill University, Patrick Hansen.
