McGill s’attaque à la réalisation d’un atlas de l’innovation sociale à Montréal

Détentrice d’un doctorat en sciences économiques et de gestion de l’Université de Liège en Belgique, la professeure Rijpens est la nouvelle boursière postdoctorale de la Faculté de gestion Desautels de McGill. Suite à un appel à candidatures, elle a été choisie l’an dernier pour diriger le Laboratoire d’intégration des innovateurs sociaux (LIIS), une cellule de réflexion regroupant spécialistes, étudiants et chercheurs ayant pour but d’examiner les entreprises sociales innovantes montréalaises ainsi que les facteurs qui les vouent à l’échec ou à la réussite.

St. Catharines Hydro victim of cyber fraud

St. Catharines Hydro has fallen victim to cyber fraud after more than $655,000 was removed from one of its accounts. At a special meeting last Friday the board appointed Mark Steinman, a member of the board, to oversee the investigation and the utility’s operations.

An Extrovert’s guide to Introverts

...An obvious person to ask for help on understanding how to deal with introverts is fellow extrovert Professor Karl Moore of McGill University, whose work on the treatment of introverts in the corporate environment has gained much attention, including in this popular Economist article. He combines real-world experience with academic thinking, which has led him to publish 28 refereed journal articles and ten books, leading to over 1,950 Google Scholar cites.

The best thing I read all year — 2016

Business school professors share the books and articles that changed their outlook. Henry Mintzberg, John Cleghorn professor of management studies, McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management I love to read books, and usually I have one that I am reading but I haven’t even given myself a chance to do that recently because of what has been going on with the US election. Instead, I have been consumed by the commentary in The New York Times international edition.

Le Brésil se tourne vers l’OMC pour contrer Bombardier

La bataille qui a ponctué les 20 dernières années recommence : après l’avoir évoqué il y a quelques mois, le Brésil a confirmé lundi qu’il se tournera vers l’Organisation mondiale du commerce (OMC) au sujet des appuis gouvernementaux reçus par le constructeur Bombardier, lequel répond n’avoir rien à se reprocher. Son concurrent brésilien, Embraer, est ravi.

Imran Amed is founder and CEO of The Business of Fashion, the online news site for the fashion industry. Amed started his site in 2007 as a blog about the fashion industry, but it has become one of the leading sources of news in the fashion world. The site raised a Series A funding round in 2015 from investors including Index Ventures, LVMH, Carmen Busquets, and Felix Capital. Amed was previously a management consultant at McKinsey & Co. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor of commerce degree from McGill University.

Business schools heed the call for more data-literate graduates

Deloitte Analytics and other companies have been pushing Canadian universities for years to produce more data-literate graduates to fill their talent needs. Their efforts appear to be paying off, with business schools ramping up their offerings in data analytics. [...] The proliferation of new offerings includes new MBA-level analytics concentrations at Montreal’s McGill University and Ottawa’s Carleton University. McGill is also in the process of approving a new master of management in analytics at its Desautels Faculty of Management.

Sick of All the Employee Engagement Talk? It’s Far From Over

Some people have gotten fed up with the hoopla surrounding employee engagement, as evidenced by these articles from Fistful of Talent, HR Magazine and ERE Media. It’s not hard to understand their feelings. ...However, I came across a Forbes article written by Karl Moore and Vincenzo Ciampi, who make a compelling case that the engagement crisis is NOT a group problem, at least not at its core. In “Leadership Engagement Always Trumps Employee Engagement,” Moore and Ciampi argue that “engagement is a leadership issue that the CEO must address, period.”

Design to benefit the world: This solar-powered backpack improves health and education

After moving to Montreal to attend McGill University, Visram designed the Soular Backpack to help tackle one of the "multitude of problems related to education of children in Kenya." Many children in Kenya live in homes without electricity and must use harmful kerosene lamps to study at night. The Soular Backpack has a solar panel on it which charges a portable LED lamp inside of it, eliminating the need for kerosene.

"Il était plutôt prévisible que le Brésil décide de faire ça », a dit Karl Moore, professeur à l’Université McGill et observateur aguerri de l’industrie aérospatiale. Le Brésil montre les crocs tout simplement, selon lui, « et je crois que le Canada n’aura pas de problèmes avec l’OMC." Le programme CSeries avait attiré l’attention dès 2008, le gouvernement américain disant alors vouloir étudier de près les appuis gouvernementaux dont bénéficiait alors la compagnie. Bombardier avait affirmé que tout était conforme aux règles.

Heike Birlenbach Will Become New Head Of Sales For The Hub Airlines Of The Lufthansa Group

The Lufthansa Group has appointed Heike Birlenbach (50) as the new Senior Vice President Sales Lufthansa Hub Airlines and Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Hub Frankfurt. She will succeed Jens Bischof, who has been appointed to the position of Managing Director of the airline SunExpress, effective 1 January 2017. SunExpress is a joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines.
