It may not be the comeback story of the century, but McGill University’s resurgence to the No. 1 position in the latest QS World University Rankings has offered a glimmer of hope when many had predicted nothing but a continual slide down the international rankings scale for the “Harvard of the north.”
The first cohort to graduate from McGill University’s X-1 startup accelerator is a unusual mix.
While some are attempting to commercialize products based on serious scientific research, one has no real product and another startup that pitched at the accelerator’s demo day has already stopped operating.
The demo day, held on Sept. 9, began with pitches form some of the startups to win at The McGill Dobson Cup, a business plan competition open to students, alumni, faculty and staff of the university.

Following a 21-year tenure at George Washington University, Isabelle Bajeux-Besnainou has joined McGill University as the new dean of the Desautels Faculty of Management.

As an extrovert, Karl has to learn to put on his “game face” and act like an introvert to be a better leader. Introverted leaders, too, need to act like extroverts at times for the same reason. But recent research from Oxford suggests an interesting turn: leaders need to incorporate characteristics of both types at the exact same time to be the best leaders they can be.
