To all members of the Faculty of Medicine,

As previously communicated, as of last Friday McIntyre Floors 7 and higher were reopened for all faculty and staff members and students, accessible via the 6th floor Pine entrance. With three of the four ventilation systems servicing this area of the building returning to operation, temperatures on these floors continued to drop over the weekend and are now within their normal range, with the exception of small pockets of warmer areas that are serviced by the one HVAC system that remains to be cleaned.

To all members of the Faculty of Medicine,

Yesterday, a special information session was held to give the Faculty community a detailed account of the progress made since the McIntyre Building fire last Friday, July 13. At the meeting, McGill’s VP (Administration and Finance) Yves Beauchamp confirmed that the McIntyre will remain closed until at least Wednesday a.m., July 25. The goal, however, is to reopen portions of the building starting as early as Wednesday. In the meantime, please note that current protocols remain in place.

Following the weekend fire at the McIntyre Medical Building, McIntyre will remain closed until further notice. We are working around the clock to verify the integrity of the structure, replace damaged fire systems, and complete other crucial assessments and remediations. We may be able to re-open some unaffected portions of the building in the coming days. Other areas may remain off-limits longer.

In the meantime:

New study underlines importance of early screening and antiretroviral therapy

While the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has largely dropped from news headlines since the 1990s, at the end of 2016 there were 36.7 million people living with the infection, and of those only 53 per cent had access to treatment. A new study underscores the neurological consequences of exposure to HIV without antiretroviral therapy.
