Service outage with WorldCat Local and other OCLC services (RESOLVED)

OCLC is experiencing a generalised outage across many of its platforms including WorldCat Local, the link resolver, QuestionPoint, Colombo (interlibrary loan), EZProxy (off-campus proxy access). We will update this page with addtional information as it becomes available. 5:19 PM: Service has been restored to all OCLC services.

Issue with off-campus users requesting items for pickup, delivery or scanning from WorldCat Local

Off-campus users are currently not able to use the Request button in WorldCat Local to request pickup, delivery, or scanning for items held by the McGill Library. We are investigating the issue and will report back as the situation develops. In the meantime, off-campus users can use the Classic Catalogue to look up and request these items.

Changes to off-campus access to Library e-resources - EZproxy migration status

Mathematica software now Free for Students

Mathematica, from Wolfram Research, is a powerful computational software used for mathematical modeling and data visualization.  McGill IT Services has been providing Mathematica to Faculty & Staff, and in computer labs across the University for the past few years.  Now it is also available to students via the McGill Software site (www.mcgill.ca/software).

Access to McGill Library e-resources to cease for all ineligible accounts as of February 16, 2015

As of Monday, February 16, 2015, access to McGill Library e-resources from off campus will end for all ineligible McGill affiliates. The Library's license agreements for electronic resources generally only cover off-campus access for current McGill students, faculty and staff. In July 2013, in an effort to comply with licensing agreements for electronic content, the McGill Library began a process of analyzing McGill user and affiliated accounts to ensure that only eligible users were able to access the Library’s e-resources. This work has now been completed.

Software license server downtime January 30, from 7am to 8am

The server that manages licenses for selected software installed on Library workstations will be unavailable Friday, January 30, 2015 from 7am to 8am. During that time users will not be able to access the following software applications on Library workstations: Matlab SPSS ArcGIS Finale 2012 We apologize for any inconvenience.

Access to McGill Library e-resources to cease for all ineligible McGill accounts

Monday, January 12: Due to a technical issue, the removal of access to McGIll Library e-resources for unauthorized accounts has been delayed. More information on the new cut-off date will be published later this week. In July 2013, in an effort to comply with McGill University Library's licensing agreements for electronic content, the McGill Library began a process of analyzing McGill user and affiliated accounts to ensure that only eligible users were able to access the Library’s e-resources. This work has now been completed.

Islamic Studies Library now open for study Saturdays from noon - 6pm

McGill Library is pleased to announce that from January 5 – April 29, 2015, the Islamic Studies Library will be open for study on Saturdays from noon – 6pm. Funding support for this extended study time was made possible thanks to the SSMU Library Improvement Fund.

Osler Library of the History of Medicine re-opens January 5, 2015

After nine months of major roof and HVAC renovation work, the Osler Library of the History of Medicine is set to re-open with full service on Monday, January 5, 2015. This project, funded through the Knowledge Infrastructure Program, involved extensive roof work directly above the Osler Library as well as a replacement of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems throughout the Library and the McIntyre Building.

Access to McGill University Library e-resources to cease for all ineligible McGill accounts as of January 12, 2015

In July 2013, in an effort to comply with McGill University Library's licensing agreements for electronic content, the McGill Library began a process of analyzing McGill user and affiliated accounts. Members of the McGill community (i.e. faculty or staff member, medical resident or student) continue to have access to the full range of electronic databases, e-journals and other e-resources. Ineligible users (not currently a faculty or staff member, medical resident or student) were no longer given access to these services.

McGill Library update on: Redpath doors, smoke-free terrace, Redpath cafeteria, accessibility & gender-neutral washrooms

Originally published: December 3, 2014 Over the last few weeks, white boards were placed around the Humanities and Social Sciences Library by the SSMU Library Improvement Fund (LIF) Committee. The goal was to collect feedback and ideas and explore how these funds could be used to improve McGill Library.
