McGill Wins 2009 Charles-Rousseau Moot and Takes Six Prizes

The 25th edition of the Charles-Rousseau public international law moot was held May 2-8 at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium. The McGill team was awarded the Charles-Rousseau Prize for the 1st place team, winning the final round against Université Paris I - Sorbonne.

Law student Eloge Butera receives Claude-Masson Award and Sauvé Scholarship

Eloge Christian Butera, a second year student at McGill’s Faculty of Law, received twin honours this April: he was granted the Young volunteer Claude-Masson Award and selected for a Sauvé Scholarships.

Marianne Hardy-Dussault and Valérie Simard winners of the AQDC writing contest

On April 24, 2009, the Québec Society of Comparative Law (AQDC) held its annual symposium at McGill’s Faculty of Law. Part of the proceedings included announcing the winners of the AQDC’s 2008-2009 writing contest for undergraduate and graduate students, who this year turned to be two McGill Law students.

Law student Justin Dubois receives one of eleven 2009 Helton Fellowships

Faculty of Law BCL/LLB student Justin Dubois has been selected for this year’s 2009 Helton Fellowships, established by the American Society for International Law (ASIL) to support young people doing fieldwork in international law.

2009 Willem C. Vis Arbitral Moot awards for McGill team

This year’s McGill Vis Moot Team returned from Vienna with a number of awards. Students Anja Grabundzija, Élise Béland, Eric van Eyken and Paula Viola won the Award for 2nd Place Claimant's memo, and received an Honourable Mention for their Respondent's Memo. After making it to the elimination rounds, Anja and Paula each received Honorable mentions as best "individual oralists".

Law student Philip Duguay publishes in the Singapore Law Review

After doing a human rights internship in 2008 at the State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Ar-Raniry in Aceh, Philip Duguay wrote an article on the question of women's rights in Aceh, Indonesia. His paper will be published in the forthcoming issue of the Singapore Law Review.

Alexandre Bien-Aimé wins for Best Opening Statement at Sopinka

At the Sopinka Cup held in Ottawa in mid-March, the team of Alexandre Bien-Aimé and Andrew Carvajal represented the prosecution in the trial of a charge of dangerous driving while racing, causing death.

McGill Law team secures qualification to 2009 International Jessup moot!

Last weekend, McGill's Jessup Moot Team, composed of Angus MacLean Rennie, Lee Rovinescu, Sandrina Antohi and Arezou Farivar, took third place at the national qualifying tournament of the 2009 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. They will advance to the International Rounds, to be held at the end of March.

McGill Law’s team, composed of students Keith Serry, Stéphanie Bachand, Owen Ripley and Palma Paciocco, placed second overall at the 2009 Laskin Moot, out of 19 universities who participated this year.

Marguerite Tinawi, Seo Yun Yang, Lauren Chang MacLean and Guy-Philippe Bouchard took two of the top four spots at the Harold J. Fox Moot, which was held in February at the Federal Court in Toronto.

Three ICL students present at scholarly conference

Rose Grogan, Samatha Jones and Andrea Sanche, three LL.M. students of the Institute of Comparative Law, attended the "Global Generations Conference: Human Rights and Health Law at a Crossroad" conference at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law on February 13, 2009. Each student delivered a paper at the conference.
